See even the Yanks now know Bliar has been telling Fibs'

Wall Street Journal article on the UK today
A long post but I had to keep the good bits.

With Great Britain now the world's most violent developed country, the British government has hit upon a way to reduce the number of cases before the courts: Police have been instructed to let off with a caution burglars and those who admit responsibility for some 60 other crimes ranging from assault and arson to sex with an underage girl. That is, no jail time, no fine, no community service, no court appearance. It's cheap, quick, saves time and money, and best of all the offenders won't tax an already overcrowded jail system.

Not everyone will be treated so leniently. A new surveillance system promises to hunt down anyone exceeding the speed limit. Using excessive force against a burglar or mugger will earn you a conviction for assault or, if you seriously harm him, a long sentence. Tony Martin, the Norfolk farmer jailed for killing one burglar and wounding another during the seventh break-in at his rural home, was denied parole because he posed a threat to burglars. The career burglar whom Mr. Martin wounded got out early.

How did things come to a pass where law-abiding citizens are treated as criminals and criminals as victims? A giant step was the 1953 Prevention of Crime Act, making it illegal to carry any article for an offensive purpose; any item carried for self-defence was automatically an offensive weapon and the carrier is guilty until proven innocent. At the time a parliamentarian protested that "The object of a weapon was to assist weakness to cope with strength and it is this ability that the bill was framed to destroy." The government countered that the public should be discouraged "from going about with offensive weapons in their pockets; it is the duty of society to protect them."

The trouble is that society cannot and does not protect them. Yet successive governments have insisted protection be left to the professionals, meanwhile banning all sorts of weapons, from firearms to chemical sprays. They hope to add toy or replica guns to the list along with kitchen knives with points. Other legislation has limited self-defense to what seems reasonable to a court much later.

The government's duty to protect the public has been compromised by other economies. Police forces are smaller than those of America and Europe and have been consolidated, leaving 70% of English villages without a police presence. Police are so hard-pressed that the Humberside force announced in March they no longer investigate less serious crimes unless they are racist or homophobic. Among crimes not being investigated: theft, criminal damage, common assault, harassment and non-domestic burglary.

As for more serious crime, the unarmed police are wary of responding to an emergency where the offender is armed. The Thames Valley Police waited nearly seven hours to enter Julia Pemberton's home after she telephoned from the closet where she was hiding from her estranged and armed husband. They arrived once the danger to them had passed, but after those who had pleaded for their help were past all help.

To be fair, under the Blair government a host of actions have been initiated to bring about more convictions. At the end of its 2003 session Parliament repealed the 800-year-old guarantee against double jeopardy. Now anyone acquitted of a serious crime can be retried if "new and compelling evidence" is brought forward. Parliament tinkered with the definition of "new" to make that burden easier to meet. The test for "new" in these criminal cases, Lord Neill pointed out, will be lower than "is used habitually in civil cases. In a civil case, one would have to show that the new evidence was not reasonably available on the previous occasion. There is no such requirement here."

Parliament was so excited by the benefits of chucking the ancient prohibition that it extended the repeal of double jeopardy from murder to cases of rape, manslaughter, kidnapping, drug-trafficking and some 20 other serious crimes. For good measure it made the new act retroactive. Henceforth, no one who has been, or will be, tried and acquitted of a serious crime can feel confident he will not be tried again, and again.

To make the prosecutor's task still easier, he is now permitted to use hearsay evidence -- goodbye to confronting witnesses -- to introduce a defendant's prior record, and the number of jury trials is to be reduced. Still, the government has helped the homeowner by sponsoring a law "to prevent homeowners being sued by intruders who injure themselves while breaking in."

It may be crass to point out that the British people, stripped of their ability to protect themselves and of other ancient rights and left to the mercy of criminals, have gotten the worst of both worlds. Still, as one citizen, referring to the new policy of letting criminals off with a caution, suggested: "Perhaps it would be easier and safer for the honest citizens of the U.K. to move into the prisons and the criminals to be let out."

The Government thinks your STUPID!

Smuggled cigarettes cost billions

The government is losing billions in VAT each year to tobacco smugglers and more resources are needed to tackle the problem, says a key Commons committee.
Customs lost around £2.9bn in Britain in 2003-2004 and the figure is expected to increase in 2004-2005.

The Committee of Public Accounts also says the estimated 12bn cigarettes smuggled into the UK pose an increased health risk to smokers.

They say a campaign is needed to expose the risks of poor quality tobacco.

"Tobacco smugglers cheat the taxpayer," said committee chairman Edward Leigh MP.

This article was copied from the BBC website, and one can assume the dates are wrong!

Well thats one view I suppose, but in all honesty, I can't believe it.

I think that the problem has been caused by the British Government!
But lets see where it takes us.....

There are smokers in the UK, and no amount of putting the prices up will make some of them stop. After all the Drugs Barons... Oops sorry the tobacco companies have been adding for years chemicals to make cigarettes more addictive.

So lets see we have little Johnny aged 35, been smoking since he left school, after all it was considered to be "Cool" to smoke. He goes abroad, and notices that the fags he has purchased so cheaply are made in the UK. So he brings some back tells his friends and before you know it everyone is bringing back ciggies, even the non smokers who re-sell them on to mates, chance of a few quid.

We are in "The Common Market", a trade agreement between coutries in Europe, which means we can, by the same silly European Laws that our own Parliament has dumped on us, legally buy as many ciggies as we want. But is the Goverment happy with this? No way!!!!, you see they want the additional tax they get when we buy ciggies from the corner shop.

After all it costs between 30 and 40 pence to produce each packet of cigarettes, the rest of the roughly £5.00 per pack price is Taxation. So the government creams off roughly £4.50 in tax and VAT.

So little Johnny thinks and thinks, and then he hires a van and buys shedloads of ciggies, after all he can buy them in European countries at less than half the price of the UK. He then sells the fags on to mates in the pub, friends of friends, little old ladies etc etc. Because the ciggies are so cheap everyone buys them, after all a pack costing £3.50 from Little Johhny is cheaper than £5.00 from the corner shop. So they are saving themselves money!

So is he a crimminal? No, he provides a service that people want. But the government don't want you to buy your ciggies of Little Johhny, so they tell you and Joe Public that Little Johhny is a part of organised crime, funding terrorists, helping the IRA, Al-Qaeda and any other lie that they think Joe Public will believe. Cause after all Joe Public is stupid, gullible and easily swayed!

Now don't get me wrong there probably are some nasty buggers out there in the big wide world, but thankfully they are few and far between. Yet your government does not want you to know this, as that doesn't keep you in line, makes you less pliable, less scared! The bogus fags that they smuggle into the country are really not more dangerous to your health than normal fags, but to try and stop people buying from Little Johhny, they are again using scare tactics, or more to the point they are telling FUCKING LIES!

But then the British government, which champions the rights of Asylum seekers, Immigants et al. Riding roughshod and led by the Politically correct brigade decide they're losing to much money, and they break the law. They issue guidelines that state each person is only permitted to bring back so many ciggies. Which is Illegal under the European Laws! One thing my Mother and Father have always said is "Two wrong's don't make a right" In other words if the Government is breaking European Laws, it cannot attack Little Johhny for breaking illegal rules!

But just supposing everyone actually stopped smoking, so no sales of ciggies, so no £4.50 in tax on every pack, coming into Government coffers. The Government is used to having all that money now, after all they have had that income for years so what will they do? Yeah you've guessed it, they will find something else to tax.

Bliar Talks Football

Sorry for the Pun its obviously Tony Blair,, and he has appeared on BBC Five Live phone in about the World Cup.

Now what suprises me is he will not face any of the Political Pundits (John Humphries to name one) and answer questions, yet he can appear on a talk-in show about football.

With the Home Office "Not fit for purpose", the 1023 missing criminal/deportee's, the overspend on NHS computers by 620 million pounds, migration Watch stating that the 350,000 Illegal Immigrants is more likely to be 750,000, the possibility of same Immigrants being offered amnesty!! The London shooting of an unarmed man whilst raiding his home.... mind you Police and guns... a sure fire laxative,,,, most of them couldnt find their own asses....but I digress.... Why wont Tony answer real questions?

Apart from the Iraqi War, this governments lies and spin. He should also be asked questions about a comment he made in 1997, when he stated he remembered watching Jackie Milburn playing for newcastle , in seats behind the goal. I have it on good authority, that seats behind goal didnt come in till 1992, at the time of J Milburns appearance for Newcastle, Mr Blair was living in Australia, and would have been about 4 years old???

Any way Tony get your arse into gear, stop trying to be "Blokish", and get the mess you and your government made cleared up.... Or better yet, resign you pathetic GIT!!!

Gitmo.....

According to Press reports, three detainees being held in the Guantanamo Bay Camp Delta have committed suicide.

The American Government has made the statement that this is a PR Stunt by the prisoners.

Now having watched the news reports in the past regarding Gitmo, one thing remains burned in my memory, that is that the prisoners were not allowed to communicate with each other. Countless photo's of Orange suited prisoners, with hoods and hands tied behind their backs, on their knees 2 metres apart, lead me to the conclusion that if this is a PR stunt by the Prisoners, just how did they arrange it? They are not allowed any time alone, not allowed to talk, not allowed writing materials, they must remain a minimum of 2.5 metres apart. Under these conditions how did they manage to get the messsages to each other?

What we have here is a few men who have decided that death is preferable to a life without hope, innocent men and youths taken by force from their homelands, transported half way around the world for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. These people were not taken in battle, were not captured with weapons in their hands. They were captured by local people who were paid a bounty by the US of A, for strangers in, near or passing through their villages.

Edmund Burke said "All that is necessary for evil to succeed is that good men do nothing".

Are the American people so scared of their government that they are doing nothing? No! but their voices are not being heard, their press is not allowed to be free, and ultimately the actions of a modern day despot, Mr George W Bush, are condeming the American people to years of strife when they travel abroad.

Read other blogs, rearch on Google for "Impeach Bush" and you will see 30,000+ sites, the true American, who believes in truth and Justice FOR ALL is waking up, and ultimately will oust Bush.
